Abstract

The Mokṣopāya (MU) is the Kashmirian version of the text that has been printed, and is more commonly known as Yogavāsiṣṭha (YV).iv In a frame story culled from the Rāmāyaṇa it purports to record a dialogue between Rāma and Vāsiṣṭha, in which Vāsiṣṭha imparts instructions to Rāma in order to convince him that his insight into the futility of existence is not something that should lead to a withdrawal from the world, but rather to the inner detachment of a liberated person, who continues to live an active life, a jīvanmukta.
