Abstract
The document contains a paper submitted for consideration by the House of Commons Select Committee on International Development in the course of the inquiry into Migration and Development. It is largely a product of the author's longstanding interest in migratory flows from the Punjab region of Northern India and Pakistan to the UK, and in the impact which counter-flows of remittances have on the local economy in and around their villages of origin.
